Curate

Born in Brittany, France, the Rev. Joris has served the Church in Rome, Paris, and New York as an intern, missionary, and now curate of Saint-Esprit. After graduate studies in French literature and the humanities at the Sorbonne and the École normale supérieure (Paris), he answered God’s call to ordained ministry and pursued theological education at the Institut Protestant de Théologie and at Harvard Divinity School (MDiv ’21).

Joris first came to Saint-Esprit in 2019 as an intern and was ordained deacon and priest in the Diocese of New York in 2025. At Saint-Esprit, he leads worship, co-teaches Bible studies with the Rector, offers pastoral care, and coordinates the Francophone Young Adult Group. He is also one of the French-language teachers (beginner classes and the Book Club) and serves as a translator of hymns.

Don’t hesitate to talk with him about two of his many pet subjects: colonial history—and Hedgie the cat.
